On December 17 2011 team Fish in the Boat took a huge step in their outreach. For the past couple of weeks they have been planning an FLL tournament. They ARE the first team in Minnesota to age out of the program and take their outreach to such great heights as to hold an FIRST Lego League Tournament. This event took place in Lakeville MN at Century Middle School. The most amazing part of this whole event was that in-between the planning of this event FITB mentored two teams at Oak Hills Elementary School and both of those teams got to compete in the tournament at CMS (Century Middle School). These two teams; Egg-nite and Grapes of Wrath, were amazing teams. One of the teams, Egg-nite, advanced to state! Congratulations Egg-nite!
_This past Saturday; Crystal, Erin, Cassady, Cully, and myself went to demo at the Things' Tournament in Elk River. Then on Sunday; Cassady, Erin, Crystal, Colton went to go volunteer at the Mays Magnet School. Later that evening they went to get more supplies for our tournament.
This Saturday the 17th, we are running a FLL tournament at Century Middle School in Lakeville and would like to know if anyone would be willing to help volunteer. If you would like to get in some volunteer hours, this is for you! If you would like to volunteer or have any questions about it, just send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org. It's LOTS OF FUN, but try to respond ASAP, because we need the help!
On Saturday 12/03/11 we held Fish in the Boat's Half-Way event, a workshop for fellow FTC teams throughout Minnesota. A bunch of teams such as; Techno-cats, Green Exploding Volcano Monsters, Just Ducky, Team Reach, The Things, Bucket Brigade, and two Crusader teams were there.
We had sessions on thermal-forming and laminating plastics, PTC's Creo Elements, and information on how to set up a pitch and present to sponsors. We also had handouts for the Engineering Notebook, tips for the drive team, Website, along with one about how to set up a pitch for corporate sponsors.
We also had a bunch of fun talking to the other teams during lunch and throughout the day about how they're progressing with their robot. We hope to see them all again at the Minnesota Snow Drift Tournament or sooner! Check out Fish in the Boat's Half-Way Event for pictures and handouts!
We're also planning for our FLL tournament we're hosting on December 17th! Lots of work, but it's so much fun!
This is where we'll be keeping you updated about our doings!
