This Saturday the third, Fish in the Boat is hosting a workshop for all MN FTC teams to help teams help other teams. We know it can be scary to be a first year team so we hope this event will help. We will have lessons on how to heat form plastic, use Creo Elements, put together a pitch for sponsorship, and a full competition arena for teams to work on their robot, program, and figure out how to use the Field Control System (FCS). We are buisy getting ready for this event that we are all looking forward to.
Saturday was the first Minnesota FLL tournament! We had Merissa, Crystal, Colton, and I go and volunteer! It was so much fun!
Colton emceed! He did a fantastic job!
Here's Colton with his awesome duct tape overalls and Fish in the Boat shirt! (he's in the top right!)
Crystal and I did team check in for the performance rounds! We also helped with table set up after rounds! Crystal's helping Vicky with table setup here!
Merissa came and started helping the data entry team!
We at team Fish in the Boat want to help your FTC team exceed at your tournament! We want to be able to provide info to you guys about what we've done and what we've tried doing!
So today's focus is.... The Engineering Notebook!
In FIRST Tech Challenge the engineering notebook is a tool to help teams show their journey, their trials and errors, their mistakes and modifications, and all their ideas throughout the season. It is a very important part of the engineering process and a team's improvement. A good notebook includes pictures and details the team's engineering experiences. It's not just the benefits, it's all the mishaps, failures, and spontaneous explosions throughout the season! It also is a tool for teams to use when they come to a problem that they have experienced before. In short, they can reference a previous post and head away from ideas that they have tried before that have failed or not worked as planned. It's a reference item!
A TEAM engineering notebook should not be posted in by ONE person. There is no "I" in "Team"!
We're super busy preparing for our FLL tournament, the countdown to which is on our main page! We've hit crunch time right now! You should come check us out on December 17th and make sure you find us and say hi! Getting everything together and talking to all the different groups is a lot of work, but it is going to be so much fun on tournament day!!
Fish in the Boat is working on the robot too, and we've begun to enjoy taking over Scott's house and basement on Saturdays now, as well as Mondays and Thursdays. It looks super cool, but of course I have to keep my lips zipped!
Today, Colton, Erin, and I went to go visit Delmar. Last year they were one of our sponsors. They supplied us with plastics for our robot and sponsored us to the World Championship. In addition to asking them to sponsor us again we also asked them about a rookie event we hope to do later in the year. We are hoping they will be able to send a person or two to help teach how to do various things with plastics for the robot.
